Many times you might not have noticed, but you can identify brands just by taking one look at their logo, even if their names are not mentioned in it. For example, McDonald’s, Nike, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, and many others. These examples are enough to realize the importance logos hold when it comes to branding. Logos are the elemental part of making your brand a successful one. With the power to create instant recognition among your target audience, they are at the heart of visual branding. In fact, I would say whenever you start a new business, the first thing you need to invest in is designing the right logo.

In this blog post, we will discuss various reasons why your brand needs a logo.

#1 Making a good first impression

Do you know that consumers take 2 seconds to judge your business, and to do so what is the first thing they notice? Your logo. Irrespective of how great your product or service is, your logo is the first thing they will interact with. Having a well-designed logo can make an excellent first impression in the consumer’s minds.

#2 Building an identity

In ancient times, there was a practice of branding cattle. The prime purpose of this was to mark ownership. And because of this, It became easy for farmers to identify their cattle when grazing in a herd.

A similar concept is applied when deciding on a brand logo (minus the suffering caused by the hot iron rod). It helps in making your product stand out from the others. Paul Rand- An American art director and a graphic designer known for his corporate logo designs of IBM, UPS, Enron, and many others, says that a logo doesn’t sell; it identifies. It communicates what your brand stands for.

#3 Grabbing attention

We all have heard the phrase that the customer is the king and, in this cutthroat competitive world, each brand is looking for out of the box ideas to grab that king’s attention. A logo is the first step in that attention-seeking process.

For example, let’s say there are two shops 1) With a logo 2) With a local shop’s name written on it. I bet the shop with the logo will be the first to get the passers-by attention. In times when consumers can change their decisions in seconds, brands have minimal time to convince the consumers that their product is worth considering. And if by chance, consumers feel like brands are not doing enough to get their attention, they can easily bypass your products.

#4 Building trust

Logos can help in instilling trust among consumers. A good design can make consumers feel great about your brand even if they have not yet interacted with it. And when they get a positive experience from you, they will quickly pair these experiences with your brand symbol, which in return will help in building trust.

Let’s take an example: When you are shopping for sneakers, you will go for the branded ones like Nike, Reebok, and Adidas. Why? Because these brands have acquired trust over the years of serving their consumers. People know that if they buy from such brands, they will get the quality they desire.

#5 Helps you in getting new customers

We have heard the phrase that a picture speaks a thousand words, well that goes for the logo too. It sports visual communication. And since we live in a world where people are drawn to appearances, your logo must have an appealing design. A well-crafted logo on the package and storefront will pique curiosity among consumers and make them check out your product or solutions.

#6 Stand out from the competitor

Today, there is competition in almost everything. To remain ahead of the curve, you constantly need to send out a message that you are different from the others. So, how would you do it? Having a distinct logo is one way to achieve that. With proper colour and typography, you can create a logo that aligns with the company’s values and mission. It can act as a beacon reminding consumers that you are better than other players in the market.

#7 Inspires brand loyalty

As your brand expands, more and more people will know about your business, and your logo will become familiar. This familiarity will foster trust, and that, in return, will bring brand loyalty, which is a huge factor in building a consumer base and something every business needs.

Once they start to like you, they will seek your products, and the logo is the first thing they will see.

Final Say

When building your brand, you have a lot of things going on in your mind. But that doesn’t mean you have to overlook something small, like investing in a logo. This activity might not be the priority for you, but believe me, if done correctly, it speaks volumes for your business.

A famous designer named Michael Beirut once said that logos are like empty vessels; you have to pour meaning into them. A well-crafted logo won’t have the meaning right away; it is something that will grow with time as it garners the trust and respect of its consumers.
